The following is an excerpt from the Tempe Chamber of Commerce Press release on the new changes.
Currently, businesses are allowed one significant event sign permit annually. This sign permit is normally used for anniversary sales and the like. On August 3, 2009, businesses will be allowed two (2) significant event permits each year. Currently, businesses can display these signs for fourteen (14) cumulative days. Soon, businesses will be able to display these temporary signs for twenty-one (21) cumulative days.
The temporary portable signs (lead-in signs) that direct people to apartments and condominium developments could also be enhanced. The size of these signs will be increased from three (3) square feet to six (6) square feet. Sign height will remain at three (3) feet. This will allow these developments to add additional information to their signs and increase visibility.
Sale, lease and rent signs for commercial, industrial and multi-family properties will also be increased from six (6) square feet to sixteen (16) square feet, allowing the signs to be seen better from the street.
These Sign Code modifications will be in effect for nine (9) months. The program will sunset on May 3, 2010.
